MSC Cruises is making major waves in North America, now recognized as the company’s top market for passenger sourcing, according to CEO Gianni Onorato. Focused on delivering a unique blend of European flair and American comfort, MSC has rapidly expanded its footprint across key U.S. cruise hubs.

The growth is moving swiftly: the new MSC World America now sails year-round from MSC’s massive Miami terminal. Later this year, MSC launches new sailings from Texas, while the MSC Poesia will debut in Alaska in 2026, departing from Seattle. Additionally, a fourth World Class ship is set to begin operations from Port Canaveral in 2027, while the MSC Meraviglia continues its weekly departures from New York.

"We are showing that we are serious, with a major terminal in Miami and strategic positioning in Galveston, Port Canaveral, and Seattle," said Onorato.

With the upcoming Alaskan cruises, MSC mirrors its European growth strategy: first solidifying presence in the Mediterranean, then expanding into Northern Europe. "This natural evolution will attract more experienced travelers," Onorato explained.

Exciting plans are also in development for a potential West Coast program as early as 2027, further boosting MSC’s North American offerings.

When the fourth World Class ship is delivered in 2027, she will join Port Canaveral, offering a mix of three-, four-, and seven-night cruises. With two ships homeporting there, MSC aims to serve both short-cruise vacationers and those seeking longer, more immersive sailings.

MSC Cruises is also investing heavily in new infrastructure, including expanded offices in Miami and Broward County. These new facilities will house the U.S. headquarters for MSC Cruises, Explora Journeys, and MSC’s cargo division. At the same time, MSC is enhancing guest experiences at its private island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, with plans to add a second pier and potentially introduce a new private destination or beach club in the Caribbean.

Buoyed by a strong North American economy and low cruise penetration rates, Onorato remains optimistic about MSC’s future. "The formula is simple: build beautiful ships, grow brand awareness, deliver exceptional guest satisfaction — and that's a win," he said.
